Our methodology is designed to:

  • Build the capacity of refugees and hosts

  • Foster self reliance and the reclamation of agency

  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of lasting communities.

Each of our programs has been entirely designed by local communities. Our programs begin when a displaced community proposes a project based on their jointly-identified needs.

Next, the REST begins a process of dialogue and review to ensure that these programs have clear mechanisms for sustainability and inclusive community development.

All people have dignity and deserve to be treated with respect. The REST believes that providing care for refugees, displaced people and vulnerable populations requires a rights-based approach that recognizes the agency and capacity of displaced communities.

These key beliefs are the inspiration of our “shoulder-to-shoulder” approach, which begins with dialogue between refugees, their host communities, and donor organizations—like REST.
